Crude Bomb explodes near Dumdum railway Dumdum, Jan 10 (ANI): Atleast three people were injured after a crude bomb placed inside a Tiffin box exploded on Saturday near Dumdum Cantonment railway station on the outskirts of Kolkata. According to media reports, the blast took place near platform number 2, where a Tiffin box with a circuit was found. Few cans with explosives have also been found. International Kite Festival kicks off in Ahmedabad, Jan 10 (ANI): The International Kite Festival kicked off in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat on Saturday with Chief Minister Anandiben Patel inaugurating the four-day event. The festival attracts enthusiastic kite makers and flyers from across the globe. Kites in various shapes and hues took over the Ahmedabad sky as foreign and local kite flyers competed with each other. The festival that marks the end of winter will culminate on January 13. Dozens of Congress activists held a protest outside the Income Tax department in Ahmedabad city before they were detained by police. Stringent security measures in place at Bengaluru, Jan 10 (ANI): Chief of Indian Navy, Admiral RK Dhowan on Saturday said that stringent security measures were being observed at all the coasts across the country. He said that a strict security cover was in place in these areas even before the Pakistani 'terror boat' was intercepted by Indian Coast Guard off the Porbandar coast in western India on the New Year's Eve. Sanjay Dutt's furlough extension request Mumbai, Jan 10 (ANI): Bollywood Actor Sanjay Dutt left for Yerawada Jail in Pune on Saturday after Dutt's request for an extension in his furlough was rejected. Dutt said that he has been a law abiding citizen and that there is no favor for him because he is a celebrity. He urged the people to pray for his early release. Dutt had sought 14 days extension after exhausting the two weeks granted to him by jail officials. The decision on his extension plea came after the Mumbai police submitted its report to the Yerwada prison authorities. Dutt is serving 42 months of his five year sentence from May 2013 for illegal possession of arms in a case related to the 1993 serial blasts. France attacks prompted by insults to pr New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): An audio recording posted on the Internet attributed to a leader of the Yemeni branch of Al-Qaeda (AQAP) said the attacks in France were prompted by insults to prophets but stopped short of claiming responsibility for the assault on the offices of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. The authenticity of the audio could not immediately be verified. The voice in recording was purported to be that of Sheikh Hareth al-Nadhari. A Yemeni journalist who specialises in al Qaeda said it was clear that AQAP had provided a "spiritual inspiration" for the attack on the newspaper offices, but there was no clear sign that it was directly responsible for the assault.
