Workers protest against nationwide strik Dhaka, Jan 22 (ANI): Workers of Bangladesh's garment industry and transport department on Thursday protested against the 48-hour nationwide strike call given by opposition, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), in Dhaka. Shouting slogans against BNP, the workers condemned the countrywide strike. Angry protestors demonstrated outside the office of BNP president and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The BNP also enforced a nationwide transport blockade which entered its third consecutive week. The political unrest began on January 05 when BNP boycotted election anniversary. The BNP and its allies had boycotted the election that was held in January 05, 2014 which was marred by deadly unrest. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held to her stance that a fresh poll can be called only if her rivals halt violence. Man dies of swine flu in Aurangabad Aurangabad, Jan 22 (ANI): A 42-year-old man died of swine flu at a government hospital in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, doctors said on Thursday. The victim identified as Shabbir Hussain Mustafa was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday in a critical condition. His lungs were damaged and he was kept on ventilator. Dr Mangala Borkar, head of the medicine department, said he was administered Tamiflu but he did not respond to it. This is the first swine flu casualty in the region in the last six months. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems. With the number of swine flu cases rising in India, doctors have advised people to avoid crowded places. 22-Jan-2015
PETA urges PM Modi to discuss greenhouse New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Animal rights organisation, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), demonstrated in New Delhi on Thursday to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss greenhouse gas emissions caused by meat processing with US President Barack Obama, who arrives in India on January 25. Obama was invited by Modi and will be the first US president to attend Republic Day celebrations on January 26. PETA activists braved the rain and Delhi winter as they stood painted in colours of national flags of the two countries and held placards urging people to go vegan in order to combat climate change. Organiser, Puneet Sharma, said meat production and processing is responsible for the emission of a major chunk of greenhouse gases. The United States and India are expected to announce efforts to work together to combat climate change ahead of key global talks in Paris later this year. 22-Jan-2015
Delhi lawyers stage protest against Kira New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Lawyers in Delhi staged a major protest on Thursday protesting against the selection of former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as the Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate in the national capital. The protesters demonstrated against Bedi by burning her effigy and raising slogans. According to reports, in the year 1988, Bedi, who was the Deputy Commissioner (North) then, ordered a lathi-charge on a group of Delhi Bar Association members who had gathered outside her office to protest against the handcuffing of one of their colleagues who was arrested on the charge of theft. Snowfall blocks strategic highway in Kas Udhampur, Jan 22 (ANI): Fresh spell of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir threw life out of gear on Thursday, leading to the closure of strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. According to the state authorities, over 300-kilometre-long highway has been closed for all types of vehicular traffic since early Thursday morning because of snowfall at some places. The suspension has stranded hundreds of vehicles at various points of the highway. The highway shall remain closed for traffic for uncertain period of time. President Obama's visit will strengthen New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin while giving details of the itinerary of the US President Barack Obama visit to India in a press conference on Thursday, said that Obama's visit is being seen as strengthening of ties across the full spectrum of India-US relationship. Akbaruddin said that US is India's key interlocutor in adjustments to global security architecture and that India sees vast potential in growth of its relations with the US. While pouring out the details of the itinerary of the US President's three-day visit to India, Akbaruddin added that Obama will visit Taj Mahal on 27 January before departing for US. SC asks BCCI to conduct fresh elections New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the BCCI to conduct fresh elections within 6 weeks and also refrained former BCCI President N Srinivasan from contesting. While asking Srinivasan to choose between Chennai Super Kings and BCCI chief's post, the Supreme Court held guilty his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra for betting in the IPL scam. The SC has barred Srinivasan from contesting elections till such time he had commercial interest in cricket. The apex court also struck down the controversial 6.2.4 clause that allows BCCI officials to own IPL teams and have commercial interests. 22-Jan-2015
PM Modi launches 'Beti Bachao Beti Padha Panipat, Jan 22 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign for the survival, protection and education of the girl child. The campaign aims to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) through a mass campaign across the country targeted at changing societal mindsets and creating awareness about the criticality of the issue. It will have focused intervention and multi-sectoral action in 100 districts with low Child Sex Ratio. It will be a major inter-ministerial initiative of the Government of India bringing together Ministries, institutions and civil societies in a rational effort to reverse the declining sex ratio. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development will be nodal ministry and will be assisted by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this endeavour. 22-Jan-2015

Professionals design unmanned aerial veh Kanpur, Jan 22 (ANI): Professors of a prestigious technology institute in Kanpur claimed to have developed a portable unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which could help security forces patrol better in border areas. It could also prove handy to police in monitoring traffic and other issues. Designers said the light UAV fitted with cameras could fly at a very low height to keep vigil in sensitive areas. It could also be used to keep an eye on wildlife in jungles, frequently targeted by poachers. They said it could also help security forces in their fight against Maoist rebels. The UAV can be carried in a bag. The attached wings on both sides of UAV can be detached and carried anywhere to make it handy for police and security personnel. Yemen's President ready to accept demand New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Yemen's President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi expressed readiness to accept Houthi demands for power-sharing after two days of battle. Reportedly, the rebels have agreed to release the President and withdraw their militias from government institutions if their demands are fulfilled. According to their demands, the rebel Houthi movement will have more say in the affairs of the Yemen. The Shiite Houthi rebels had seized the presidential palace and surrounded President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's home. Hadi himself was unharmed. Jaipur set to welcome authors, publisher Jaipur, Jan 21 (ANI): India's pink city Jaipur will welcome authors, writers, speakers at Asia's largest literary festival which begins on Wednesday (January 21). Regional language novelists and writers will rub shoulders with Man Booker prize winners and Nobel laureates at the 8th edition of Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), which will be held in Diggi Palace in Jaipur. The writers will converge in the city for five days of readings, debates and discussions. Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje, is scheduled to inaugurate the festival, where over 200,000 visitors are expected. The event is seen as an agenda-setter on key issues from the global economic crisis to the rise of e-books, the current state of politics in the Middle East to the increasing importance of Indian language publishing. 21-Jan-2015

Sarabjit Kaur was admitted in the hospital on Friday with complains of high fever and cough. Kaur also had uncontrolled diabetic condition. He informed that she had not travelled in recent past or contacted any swine flu patient. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. Drug Racket Case: Punjab and Harayana HC Chandigarh, Jan 21 (ANI): The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday stayed the implementation of transfer orders of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director Niranjan Singh who is probing 4000 crore synthetic drug racket case. The decision was taken on the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Lawyer Navikiran Singh. The next hearing of the case is scheduled on February 2. One month after the gruesome attack on the army public school in Peshawar, the school reopened, the candle light vigils were held and a tough message was sent to militants and its backers within the State of Pakistan. Activists, campaigners and members of the civil society gathered in several cities across Pakistan on Friday (January 16) to mark one month since the deadly attack by Taliban gunmen on the Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar in which over 140 people, including 134 children, were systematically gunned down. In Islamabad, several parliamentarians came out to join a vigil outside Parliament House. A developing country with a population of 92.5 million, Vietnam has selected Japan as its partner. The government issued a master plan specifying the project of building nuclear power plants, as the first time in Vietnam and South East Asia. Electric Power University (EPU) in Hanoi, is one of the six universities in Vietnam that are authorized to provide human resource training in nuclear power generation. The University has opened the Department of Nuclear Power in 2010 where students are learning basic knowledge required for nuclear power generation. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is one of the first partners which effectively cooperates and supports Electric Power University and provide nuclear engineering lecture. Recently, "Cool Japan lounge" exhibition was held at AEON Mall Binh Duon Canary in Vietnam by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as a part of "Cool Japan World Trial" initiatives.
