Women block highway in protest of hooch Gorakhpur, April 02 (ANI): Women in Uttar Pradesh took to streets against the flourishing business of illegal liquor manufacturers in the area. Accusing the police of turning a blind eye to the illegal trade, women protesters blocked the national highway-29 in Gorakhpur city and demanded immediate shut down of shops selling cheap liquor. Easily available at affordable prices, moonshine has claimed many lives in the area, said a local Rajesh Nishad. The residents suspect that the local administration and police are involved in the illegal trade. They expressed concern over more and more people becoming addict to hooch. Al Shabaab militants kill at least 14 pe Kenya, April 02 (ANI): At least 14 people were reported killed on Thursday when Islamist militants stormed a university campus near Kenya's border with Somalia, taking Christian students hostage and battling security forces over several hours. Police and soldiers surrounded and sealed off Garissa University College and were attempting to flush out the gunmen, the head of Kenya's police force, Joseph Boinet, said in a statement. Somali militant group al Shabaab, which has links to al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the pre-dawn raid and said it was holding many Christian hostages inside. Some of the students who managed to escape or were freed by the attackers said they had to take cover the moment they realised the university was under attack. Haryana CM refutes questions on Khemka, Hisar, April 02 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday tried to refute questions on transfer of Whistleblower IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who had pointed out alleged irregularities in allotment of land to Robert Vadra in Haryana. However, he said that Khemka has been transferred on administrative grounds and that the transfer was a routine exercise which is done based on the needs. Modi asks RBI to prepare a financial inc Mumbai, April 2 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked the Reserve Bank of India to prepare a roadmap for the next 20 years to promote financial inclusion in the country. Modi was speaking at the Financial Inclusion Conference organised in Mumbai to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Also seen at the event were Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, and RBI Governor, Raghuram Rajan. Finance Minister Jaitley says government Mumbai, April 02 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Thursday that the government would restore the credibility of decision-making, while easing processes and making India's tax structure non-adversarial. While addressing a financial inclusion event organised by central Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai, Jaitley reiterated government promises to make India more business and investor-friendly. He added that the proposed Good and Services Tax (GST) would bring major changes in the system. Meanwhile, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said country's push to build infrastructure should not come at the expense of financial stability. Rajan said that India needed to find new sources of funding for infrastructure so that debt levels remained "moderate". The comments come as the government says it wants $1 trillion invested in infrastructure in the five years to 2017, with half of the funding coming from private companies. 02-Apr-2015
Bihar court orders FIR against Giriraj S Muzaffarpur, April 02 (ANI): In a setback for Union Minister Giriraj Singh, a Bihar court ordered to file FIR against him over his remark against Congress President Sonia Gandhi. A complaint was filed in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar by Congress worker Sanjay Kumar Singh in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ved Prakash Singh, who transferred the case to the court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Anju Singh. The SDJM gave the order to Mithanpura police station under Section 166 of IPC (public servant disobeying law with intent to cause injury to any person). Singh had asked the Congress on Tuesday at Hajipur whether the party would have accepted Sonia Gandh's leadership if she were not white-skinned. India's autistic children take part in a Visakhapatnam, April 02 (ANI): Children suffering from autism took out a rally in Visakhapatnam on Thursday as part of a campaign to create awareness about the disease. The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the need to help improve the quality of life of children and adults, who are affected by autism, so they can lead full and meaningful lives. A special school for autistic children called 'Sparsh' organized the rally in which children alongwith their parents took to the streets. The trainers of the school also took part in the rally which was spearheaded under the banner reading 'Autism isn't the tragedy/Ignorance is the tragedy'. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the normal brain's function. The condition makes a person hard to communicate with and relate to other people. Fresh rains threaten to worsen flood sit Rajouri/ Poonch/ Srinagar/ New Delhi, April 01 (ANI): Incessant rains began in Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday (April 01) morning posing fresh threats to the locals residing along the river banks. Police baton charge students protesting Allahabad, April 01 (ANI): Police in Allahabad city on Wednesday (April 01) baton charged students protesting against leak of question paper of preliminary examination of Uttar Pradesh Provincial Civil Services (UPPCS) 2015. Hundreds of youths gathered in front of the headquarters of UP Public Service Commission, which conducts the exams, shouted slogans and demanded suspension of its chairman. Superintendent of Police (SP), Arun Kumar Pandey, said the students were not allowed to hold any protest near the offices of the commission. The first paper of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Civil Services (UPPCS) 2015 preliminary examinations was leaked in Lucknow. Police found that the question paper of general studies subject was uploaded on WhatsApp, an instant mobile messaging app. Authorities have cancelled the examination. Rajasthan bans camel slaughter Jaipur, April 1 (ANI): In view of dwindling population of camels, the assembly in Rajasthan passed Rajasthan Camel (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Bill, which banned camel slaughter in the state. Last year, Rajasthan designated camel as its state animal, hoping to curb the growing illegal trade of camels and camel meat. The bill passed through voice vote bans slaughtering, trading and unauthorised transportation of camels and set a five-year jail term and a fine for slaughtering or injuring the animal, popularly referred to as ship of the desert. However, camel can be used for domestic and agricultural purposes. Agriculture Minister of Rajasthan, Prabhulal Saini, said that camels were used in the state for a variety of purposes like patrolling the borders, tourism etc and hence were of much importance. This bill comes close on the heels of a recent beef ban clamped in Maharashtra. 01-Apr-2015
