Opposition walk out of parliament as deb New Delhi, April 24 (ANI): Opposition parties walked out of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament on Friday as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley began debate on the Constitutional amendment bill to implement Goods and Services tax. India hopes to pass a national Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the second half of parliament's budget session. Allure of gold remains unblemished as In New Delhi, April 21 (ANI): Jewellery markets wore a busy look on Tuesday as customers flocked to buy gold on Akshay Tritiya – the second biggest gold buying day in the Hindu calendar. At Dariba Kalan, the centuries-old jewellery bazaar in Delhi's old quarters, jewellers were struggling to meet the rush of customers who had descended on their shops after a relatively lean phase. The Hindi word Akshaya literally means indestructible or eternal. It falls annually in the third lunar month of the Shukla Paksh in the Hindu month of Vaisakha. This year, the eternal day fell on April 21. On Tuesday, shops dazzled with a blend of intricate and exquisite gold necklaces, earrings, sovereigns (gold coins) and other accessories. 21-Apr-2015
India seizes over 250 kg heroin shipment Porbandar, April 21 (ANI): India seized over 250 kilograms of heroin from Pakistani drug traffickers aboard a boat on the Arabian Sea on Tuesday. A joint navy and coastguard operation intercepted the vessel in Indian waters on Monday (April 20), apparently headed for Gujarat state. Each packet weighs approximately one kg with a gross internal market value of six billion dollars. The smugglers were using phones and GPS systems to allow trans-shipment to another boat. Eight crew members from Pakistan were detained and were in police custody in Gujarat. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), a specialized police force, said the confiscation of heroin was one of India's biggest recorded heroin seizures. 21-Apr-2015
Minor boy chained inside police station Vetapalam, April 21 (ANI): In an appalling incident of police apathy, a minor boy was reportedly detained in Andhra Pradesh for the last five days over the allegations of theft. Reportedly, the minor boy who is a rag picker and the sole bread earner of the family has been kept chained inside the police station. According to reports, the boy has been accused of stealing gold jewellery. He had been detained at Vetapalem police station in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. SC directs SIT to submit report on black New Delhi, April 21 (ANI): The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating the black money stashed abroad, to submit the status report on the progress made by it so far by May 12. The SIT, which was created by the apex court, is expected to file a report to the court regarding action taken by various investigative agencies in cases related to illegal funds stashed abroad by Indian nationals. A petitioner in the black money case, Ram Jethmalani, blamed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for inordinate delay in retrieval of ill-gotten money deposited in tax heavens. Surrendered Maoist reveals to police 35 Chhattisgarh, April 21 (ANI): A Maoist who had surrendered last week in Chhattisgarh, told police that 35 rebels were killed in an ambush with security forces earlier this month. On April 11, seven personnel of the police's Special Task Force (STF) were killed in a Maoist ambush in Polampalli forests in the rebel-infested Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Their bodies were brought to the Jagdalpur district amid high security a day later, where the state Chief Minister Raman Singh and police officials paid their last respects. Maoists had gunned down seven security personnel and left 10 others wounded while they were conducting search operation in Sukma. At a news conference in Raipur on Tuesday, Additional Director General (ADG) of police, Chhattisgarh, RK Vij said the Maoist, Soni Rama, had surrendered on April 16 and given them information on the ambush. 21-Apr-2015

Nine die as bus catches fire in Amethi Amethi, April 21 (ANI): Nine people died and several others were injured as a bus caught fire in Peeparpur area of Amethi district on Tuesday morning. The Uttar Pradesh state transport bus was enroute to Allahabad city when the incident occurred. Some passengers managed to escape by breaking the window panes of the bus. Police said the reason for cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately. But District Magistrate, Jagat Raj Tripathi, said there was a gas cylinder kept inside the bus. Obama's holy offering presented at Ajmer Ajmer, April 20 (ANI): A sacred cloth or chadar was offered on behalf of President of the United States, Barack Obama, at the mausoleum of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty in Ajmer on the occasion of the saint's death anniversary on Monday (April 20). Obama sent a red coloured, richly embroidered 'chadar' inscribed with religious verses through US envoy to India Richard R Verma, said chief priest Syed Salman Chisty. The offerings had arrived in India on Saturday (April 18). The shrine, which contains the tomb of the Sufi saint Moinuddin Chisty, is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Muslims in India. Hindus and Sikhs also visit the shrine, which lies some 350 km southwest of New Delhi, and is seen as a symbol of communal harmony. Professor of Harvard University, Stephen Marks, expressed gratitude on being a part of the religious event. Historically, it was after Mughal emperor Akbar, who undertook a journey on foot from Taj city of Agra to Ajmer during his reign that the Dargah emerged as one of the most important pilgrimage centres in India, which is revered by people of all religions. 20-Apr-2015
India being watched for its contribution New Delhi, April 20 (ANI): US Ambassador to India, Richard R Verma on Monday said New Delhi was being watched closely by the world for its contribution towards climate change, a global issue. Verma, who was addressing a climate conference in capital New Delhi, lauded India's commitment to phase down production and consumption of harmful Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Last week, India proposed an amendment to the United Nations' Montreal Protocol, which calls on countries to phase out their use of HFCs, gases used in refrigerators, air conditioners and insulating foams that are a highly potent form of greenhouse gas emissions.
