BJP chief urges northeast to become Cong Imphal, April 19 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party Chief urged the people of northeastern states on Sunday to become Congress-free by giving Prime Minister Narendra Modi government a chance to develop the region. Addressing a public meeting in Imphal, Shah said that like people of Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Maharashtra, northeastern states should also give BJP majority. Shah added that even though the BJP gives rupees 19 billion for the development of the region, it does not develop due to corruption. No takers for India's first Maruti 800 c New Delhi, April 19 (ANI): India's first "people's car", the Maruti 800, is lying unattended at Green Park in New Delhi. With the death of its owners, the Sikh couple who instantly rose to fame after they got keys of the car from the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, chorus has been growing for its preservation. The car, which is parked outside the locked house of Harpal Singh and Gulshanbeer Kaur, has no takers. Singh died in 2010 and his wife, two years later. His two daughters who live in South Delhi area with their families are not able to maintain the car. The family members, who are emotionally attached with the car, don't want it to rust down. They want that the prized trophy should be kept in a museum for the future generations. Modi 'salutes' VK Singh for Yemen Evacua New Delhi, April 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Foreign Ministry for the evacuation operation in Yemen. Modi said that it was not an easy task to rescue Indian citizens and bring them home safely amid bombarding in Yemen. He congratulated External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for External Affairs Gen (Retd) VK Singh for their continuous efforts. He also said that such events often go dormant in media but making place in the hearts of the people is more important. The chadar was handed over to the Dargah's Chief Khadim or chief priest Haji Syed Salman Chisty in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Poly houses boost vegetable cultivation Srinagar, April 19 (ANI): The government in Kashmir has taken an initiative to provide poly houses at subsidised rates to farmers to help them increase vegetable production and also protect their crops from vagaries of fluctuating weather. Poly house farming is an agricultural technique in which cultivation of vegetables is done in a controlled atmosphere, under ultraviolet film roofing and nets to keep pests out. The initiative has benefited farmers of several villages in Budgam district and the government wants to expand it to other districts as well. Suicide attack leaves 33 dead and more t Jalalabad, April 18 (ANI): A suicide bomb blast in Afghanistan's city of Jalalabad on Saturday killed at least 33 people and injured more than 100 outside a bank where government workers collect salaries. Police have yet to determine if the attacker had worn the explosives or had placed them in a car. They were also investigating if there was a second explosion after people rushed to the scene to help. Police said a third blast that shook Jalalabad was a controlled detonation after experts discovered another bomb close to the scene of the first explosion. Fire in oil well leaves seven injured in Surat, April 18 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in one of the wells of government-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Surat on Saturday, leaving seven people injured. A blast occurred in the well following leakage in a gas pipeline. Fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse off the fire. No casualties have been reported so far. The injured are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The fire is the third such incident to be reported from the site this year. 18-Apr-2015
Raje pushes for more funds from Centre f New Delhi, April 18 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje met the Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari and suggested for allocation of adequate funds for maintenance of the national highways(NH) passing through the state. Raje informed Gadkari that condition of the NH roads was not good and it was causing inconvenience in smooth passage of vehicular traffic on these roads. The chief minister brought to his notice that certain roads in the state were not being maintained by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and that the state government was providing funds for maintenance from its own resources. Delhi organises heritage walks to promot New Delhi, April 18 (ANI): Delhi government on Saturday launched a series of heritage walks to promote various tourism destinations in the national capital. One such heritage walk was flagged off by Delhi's tourism minister, Jitender Singh Tomar, at the historic Purana Qila (Old Fort) to mark the World Heritage Day. The fort is a 16th century monument believed to be Delhi's oldest fort built by the Afghan invader, Sher Shah Suri. Delhi Tourism has teamed up with Delhi Heritage Management Secretariat to create awareness about dozens of such historical sites. People from across the city gathered on a warm Saturday morning to walk and gain knowledge about the site by historians and academicians. Yasin Malik and Swami Agnivesh detained Srinagar, April 18 (ANI): The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik and Arya Samaj leader Swami Agnivesh were detained by Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday. The two were arrested while they were marching towards Narbal where a youngster was killed on Saturday morning. Malik is also on a 30-hour long hunger strike in protest against the proposed separate township for Kashmiri Pandits in the valley. The youngster succumbed to his injuries after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel fired at protesters in Narbal. Two farmers die of heart attack after cr Bahraich, April 18 (ANI): Two farmers in Bharaich district of Uttar Pradesh died of heart failure after their crops were damaged due to unseasonal rainfall and hail storm. Unseasonal storms have badly damaged the winter crop in large parts of the fertile northern plains, most likely contributing to the suicides, and villagers have blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not stepping in to help the distressed farmers or ensuring that crop prices remained stable. As per the last reports, so far 40 farmers have committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh alone. The two farmers - Brijbihari and Babu – were distressed and in shock after their crops were damaged. Brijbihari had recently arranged his daughter’s wedding as he was expecting good returns on his wheat crops. Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Bharaich, Santosh Kumar, ensured timely compensation to the farmers’ family. 18-Apr-2015

The portal 1008jobs.com is first even in India to provide such opportunities to transgender community. The portal will also appoint transgender staff members in each city to help job seekers from their community. This portal will offer these sexual minorities a wide range of employment opportunities rather than doing odd jobs to earn a living. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the portal, K Prashanth, said that they were doing this to bring transgender into the mainstream. The portal is not just exclusive to transgender but is open to for everyone seeking employment. It also gives importance to part-time job seekers and students looking for earning while studying. Police arrest five smugglers with six ki Jaisalmer, April 18 (ANI): Police arrested five alleged smugglers with six kilogram of narcotics in Rajasthan, said a senior officer. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted raids and nabbed two accused in Jaisalmer district and later three suspects from neighbouring Barmer district. Superintendent of Police, Vishnu Kant, said the accused would be produced in the court for police remand for further investigation. HC stays suspension of St Stephen's stud New Delhi, April 17 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the suspension of Devansh Mehta, student of St Stephen's college who was barred from attending classes for launching an online magazine. In a writ petition filed before Delhi High Court, Devansh Mehta sought "quashing of the order banning/suspending publication of the St Stephen's Weekly, stay on the suspension order and restraining the principal from taking any further action against him".Mehta, a third-year Philosophy student and editor of the banned e-zine, on Wednesday was suspended till April 23 after a one-man inquiry committee appointed by the principal found him guilty of violating disciplinary norms of the college. Mehta has also requested in his petition that he be awarded the Rai Saheb Banarsi Das Memorial Prize, for which he was earlier selected by the college faculty before being later dropped from the list in the wake of the controversy. 17-Apr-2015

Need to urgently detect leprosy, says NH New Delhi, April 17 (ANI): India’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson, KG Balakrishnan on Friday stressed on the need for an early detection of leprosy cases to combat the disease. Balakrishnan highlighted that though the disease was not so common now, a social stigma against those with the disease still existed and needed to be addressed. Balakrishnan added that leprosy had seen a decline from the previous years.
