Australian Foreign Minister visits non-p New Delhi, April 13 (ANI): Australian Foreign Minister Julie Isabel Bishop visited a non-profit organisation in New Delhi on Monday (April 13) to oversee a project funded by her government and also pledged donation for a health plan. Bishop was accompanied by Australian High Commissioner to India, Patrick Suckling, on her visit to the Aga Khan Foundation. She further said that providing women with opportunities and empowering them to become a part of the economy are important parts of Australia's direct-aid programme. Bishop interacted with a group of women supported by Aga Khan Foundation and also went through the products designed by them. Bishop also announced another round of funding to support a child nutrition group that would again employ women and would be run by foundation's group called 'Zaika-e-Nizamuddin'. German Chancellor says huge potential of Hanover, April 13 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday made a joint statement at the Hannover-Messe, the world's biggest technology fair. Modi and Merkel together had inaugurated the fair on Sunday (April 12). Merkel said there was a large potential of growth between India and Germany that still needed to be explored. Subhas Chandra Bose Snooping Row gains p New Delhi/ Bilaspur, April 13 (ANI): As India debates snooping on the family members of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress party on Monday (April 13) downplayed a meeting between Bose's family and Prime Minster Narendra Modi in Germany. Modi would meet Bose's grand nephew in Berlin. Congress party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said Modi's meeting with Bose's relatives should not be linked to the controversy. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, decried snooping on Bose's family. CPI leader D Raja said the government should put all the documents in the public domain to clear the air. Reacting to the controversy, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said the previous government headed by the Congress party had released the documents. He wondered why the Congress was raising hue and cry on the issue. Bose, 48, was believed to have died in an air crash in Taiwan on August 18, 1945, three days after Japan's surrender to the allied forces. Political blame game begins as Bhagat Si New Delhi/Kolkata /Chandigarh, April 12 (ANI): Family of another iconic freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh has demanded declassification of secret files. This comes after the family of freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose demanded an investigation after declassified intelligence agency files revealed that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru spied on Bose's family for 20 years. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) files have revealed an unprecedented surveillance on Bose's family between 1948 and 1968, which was reported directly to Nehru. The agency intercepted, copied letters written by family and tailed their visits within country and abroad. Meanwhile, nephew of Bhagat Singh, Abhay Singh Sandhu, said keeping older files secret was unfortunate. Congress leader Anand Sharma, accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of resorting to selective leaks. CPI leader D Raja, also decried snooping on Bose’s family. Attacks in Kashmir prompt authorities in Pathankot, April 12 (ANI): Punjab state has been put on alert following the spurt in militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir in the north, while it shares international border with the Pakistani province of Punjab in the west. Punjab police has formed several teams which have been deployed in Pathankot and Ludhiana districts. Barricades have been put on roads and vehicles are being scrutinised. Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP), Prabhjot Singh Virk said the recent militant attacks in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir prompted them to tighten security measures. 'Railway station at China border a 'mile New Delhi, April 12 (ANI): Defence experts on Sunday welcomed the government's decision to build a station in Arunachal Pradesh near the India-China border, terming it a 'milestone' for the country's security. Citizens in Delhi cycle to mark 31 years New Delhi, April 11 (ANI): Human rights groups in New Delhi hosted a cycle rally on Saturday spanning 31 kilometers through the city to highlight denial of justice to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
