Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh o New Delhi, April 8 (ANI): Hours after the BJP government relaxed the norms for providing relief to farmers whose crops have been damaged due to the heavy unseasonal rain, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said that he has written to state heads asking them to offer immediate relief to farmers if they have NDRF or contingency funds with them. While launching MUDRA Bank in New Delhi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that farmers will get assistance even where the loss is 33 per cent. Earlier, assistance used to be given to farmers if 50 per cent or more of his crop was damaged in a natural calamity. At the same time, farmers will also get 50 per cent more compensations. PM also said insurance companies have been asked to settle the claims of farmers on a priority basis. The banks have also been asked to restructure crop loans. 08-Apr-2015
Japan contributes to farming, automotive Tokyo, April 08 (ANI): "Tochi otome", a Japanese variety of strawberries is now produced in the suburbs of Pune. The fruit is grown by using a Japanese method called elevated hydroponics culture. Japan's NEC Corporation has come up with an idea to create both social and economic value of this project using Information and Communications Technology. NEC has teamed up with the Institute of Cultural Affairs, an India based NGO to set up strawberry project in Pune. Growing Japanese strawberries requires high skills and experience. NEC's support of Information Technology services makes it capable to expand to overseas market. Data such as temperature, humidity and sunlight hours as required for cultivation of crop are collected from several sensors installed in the Poly-house. The cultivation data has been shared with the professionals in Japan through NEC's cloud system. The Japanese agriculture professional organisation, GRA, is in charge of cultivation of strawberries in India. GRA analyses the data and gives feed back to India for cultivation support. Staff in India can send photos, questions and requests to Japan for GRA professionals to analyze and respond to the queries. 08-Apr-2015

Angry over the callous attitude of the administration, they took to the streets to fight for their demands. Holding banners, questioning the callousness of the government, the retired employees of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir took to the streets to press for their demands. The employees have been denied their pension by the government for years now, forcing them to live a life of misery in their old-age. Chanting anti-administration slogans, the employees held a protest demonstration near the assembly secretariat and later marched through the main market. Urging government to release their pension, the employees, all senior citizens, held a day-long-protest, despite bad weather conditions. They threatened to intensify the stir if their demands are not met. Also, spokesperson of the party, Atishi Marlena, on Tuesday shot out a scathing letter to rebels Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav for remaining adamant in their demands and tarnishing the image of the party. Opposition says Modi government has taci New Delhi/ Ahmedabad, April 07 (ANI): The Congress on Tuesday accused the ruling BJP-led government of having a tacit understanding with a pro-tobacco lobby. Last week, the health ministry deferred a decision to increase the size of pictorial warning on tobacco products from 40 percent to 85 percent after a parliamentary panel for subordinate legislations set up to look into the issue shot down the proposal. Head of the panel, Dilip Gandhi, who is also a BJP lawmaker, had commented that tobacco use does not cause cancer. Beedi baron Shyama Charan Gupta, another BJP lawmaker and part of the panel, is also opposed to increase in size of pictorial warnings. The opposition and even an ally of BJP, the hardline Shiv Sena party, have upped the ante against the government for its failure to increase the size of pictorial warnings. Shiv Sena party in its editorial "Saamna" launched a vitriolic attack on Gandhi saying that he should be honoured with a Nobel Prize for his comments. The editorial also challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "clean up the mouths of his MPs who are spreading dirt through speech." 7-year-old boy sexually assaulted, set o Bhiwandi, April 6 (ANI): A seven-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted and then set on fire by three men in Bhiwandi town in Thane district of Maharashtra. The unpleasant incident took place on Saturday morning when the child had gone to eat at a community kitchen. The boy was lured by the three accused and taken to an isolated spot where he was allegedly sexually assaulted and then set on fire by the accused. The boy has suffered 30 per cent burn injuries and is being treated at the Thane Civil hospital. A case was registered by the police under sections 363 (kidnapping), 377 (Unnatural Sex) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident and the matter is being further investigated. 06-Apr-2015
DK Ravi death case: Will send case back New Delhi, April 6 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that his government will send the request for an inquiry into the death of IAS officer DK Ravi back to the Central Bureau of Investigation, after the agency refused to investigate the case. Earlier, the CBI refused to investigate the case, citing the deadline of three months imposed by the state government. Ravi, who took on the sand mafia in Karnataka's Kolar District, was an Additional Commissioner on deputation with the Commercial Tax department. West Bengal police arrests 300 VHP activ Raiganj, April 05 (ANI): The West Bengal police on Sunday arrested around 300 Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists after its chief Praveen Togadia was banned from entering the state. According to reports, the activists were marching towards a 'Dharm Sammelan' meeting at the Raiganj Merchant Club field to commemorate the VHP's golden jubilee celebrations, when the police detained them. The West Bengal government had deployed units of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the state police at the venue, anticipating a law and order problem. DIG-Malda Range, Satyajit Banerjee said that the VHP had scheduled a programme at the venue which was not permissible and therefore police arrested some of the party workers. Earlier on Wednesday, the state government's Home Ministry had banned the entry of Togadia into the state, stating that his entry may lead to communal tension and 'disturbance of public tranquillity'. 06-Apr-2015

PM Modi witnesses transfer of land for A New Delhi, April 05 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday witnessed the signing of agreements between the Union Ministry of Textiles, the Government of Maharashtra and the National Textile Corporation for the transfer of land to enable the construction of the Dr BR Ambedkar memorial in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister of State for Textiles Santosh Gangwar were also present during the signing of the agreements. Three civilians killed in landmine blast Rajouri, April 04 (ANI): Three civilians were killed and one wounded in a mine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Due to heavy rains a landmine had drifted into a farmland from the minefield created by Indian Army near the Line of Control in Janghar area of Nowshera tehsil in the district, a Defence spokesman said. Three laborers died on spot, one seriously injured shifted to hospital. The bodies of the three laborers fell about fifty meters away from the site of the power full explosion. 04-Apr-2015
BSF arrests Bangladeshi immigrants in We Jalpaiguri, April 04 (ANI): India's Border Security Force (BSF) arrested eight Bangladeshi immigrants in West Bengal on Saturday. The immigrants entered India through Dahagram, a Bangladeshi enclave, in the Indian part. On the basis of intelligence input, the police nabbed them near Jalpaiguri railway station when they were returning from Chennai where they worked in a factory. The BSF later handed over the immigrants to the police. The Kehwah Group launched a theme-based high-end fleet of luxurious buses in Srinagar, called 'On Wheels' that has been custom built to provide on-the-go services like spa, café, caravan and vanity van. Chief executive officer of Onwheels Sheikh Imran said the concept was inspired from European nations.
