India's eight core sectors grow by 5.1 percent in May

New Delhi, July 1 (IBNS): The eight core industries registered a growth of  5.1 per cent in May, official data released on Monday said.

"The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 138.7 in May, 2019, which was 5.1 per cent higher as compared to the index of May, 2018," read a government statement.

"Its cumulative growth during April to May, 2019-20 was 5.7 per cent," it said.

Coal

3.       Coal production (weight: 10.33 per cent) increased by 1.8 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index increased by 2.5 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over corresponding period of the previous year.

Crude Oil

4.       Crude Oil production (weight: 8.98 per cent) declined by 6.9 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index declined by 6.8 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Natural Gas

5.       The Natural Gas production (weight: 6.88 per cent) growth stood at 0.0 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index declined by 0.4 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Refinery Products

6.       Petroleum Refinery production (weight: 28.04 per cent) declined by 1.5 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index increased by 1.3 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Fertilizers

7.       Fertilizers production (weight: 2.63 per cent) declined by 1.0 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index declined by 2.6 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Steel

8.       Steel production (weight: 17.92 per cent) increased by 19.9 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index increased by 19.4 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Cement

9.       Cement production (weight: 5.37 per cent) increased by 2.8 per cent in May, 2019 over May, 2018. Its cumulative index increased by 2.5 per cent during April to May, 2019-20 over the corresponding period of previous year.
