China, Huawei thank PM Narendra Modi govt for allowing 5G trial participation
New Delhi/UNI: China on Tuesday thanked the Indian government for allowing its telecommunication company Huawei to take part in the upcoming 5G trials and hoped that Chinese companies would get a level-playing field for win-win cooperation between the two countries.
A day after Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Narendra Modi-led government will allocate airwaves to all telecom service providers for conducting trials of super-fast 5G networks, China's Ambassador Sun Weidong welcomed the decision and said he was "glad" to know all players had got equal chance to participate in the 5g trial.
"A welcome move conducive to initiatives like Digital India. Hope Chinese companies continue to enjoy open, transparent business environment and level playing field in India for win-win cooperation," tweeted the envoy.
India’s permission to Huawei comes amid US sanctions against the company. The Trump administratio has been asking allies and friends not to use Huawei’s network equipment in their 5G networks.
The issue also figured in the 2 Plus 2 talks between India and the US in Washington early this month.
On Monday, Prasad said, "As part of our commitment to ensure faster roll out of 5G services in India, we have decided to give 5G spectrum for trials to all the players."
Huawei also thanked the Indian government for reposing faith on the company.
"We thank the Indian government for their continued faith in Huawei," said the company.
"We firmly believe that only technology innovations and high quality networks will be the key to rejuvenating the Indian telecom industry. We have our full confidence in the Modi government to drive 5G in India," it said.
In September this year, Huawei had said it is hopeful that the Indian government will treat all foreign investments "fairly" and had urged the world's largest democracy to make an "independent decision" on permitting 5G trials in the country.
5G is the next generation cellular technology with download speeds stated to be 10 to 100 times faster than the current 4G LTE networks.
