Tata Power Mundra UMPP launches website to promote sustainable business model for animal husbandry

Mumbai /Kolkata, Dec 9 (IBNS): Tata Power, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), has launched a website to promote sustainable development of communities living in and around its areas of operation.

Since animal husbandry remains a key source of alternative income for the Indian communities at large, the company has always supported the practice by ensuring regular fodder supply for the cattle.

Under its ongoing project ‘KALP’, Tata Power provides innovative and replicable models for establishing Fodder Supply Centres and building Gaushalas (animal shelters) at Tunda-Vandh and Mota Kandagra to help strengthen this important livelihood option.

The company encouraged the local community to develop a website to create awareness about the various activities conducted under its project KALP, and to help raise funds for the initiatives under Shree Tunda Vandh Gaushaala Charitable Trust.

Anil Sardana, MD and CEO, Tata Power, launched the Tunda Vandh Gausheva Charitable Trust (TVGCT) website, www.kutchkalp.org, in the presence of Nawsheer Mirza, Non-Executive Independent Director, Chairman of Nomination & Remuneration Committee and Member of Executive Committee, Tata Power, and other senior officials.

Since its launch in 2009, the TVGCT initiative looks after approximately 1500 cattle, and, during drought mitigation, supplies fodder to more than 6000 cattle from 8 villages.

The successful commissioning of the program has resulted in a substantial rise in livestock, and a 19‐24% increase in the income of the cattle owners. The initiative has also encouraged more and more people to engage in the business of animal husbandry.

Speaking on the initiative,  Anil Sardana, Managing Director- Tata Power stated, “We at Tata Power believe in Leadership with Care and have always worked with the community to attain inclusive development for a sustainable future. We are pleased to see that, through our project KALP, we have been able to support the community and the website will help to raise funds nationally and internationally. We would like to congratulate CGPL community relations team and TVGCT for organising sustainable programmes such as KALP and ultimately transferring the ownership to community as part of sustainability agenda of the Company.”
