2.79 lakh new EPF subscribers in May

New Delhi/UNI: The number of new Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme subscribers in May were 2,79,023, according to data released on Friday by the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

During September 2017 to May 2020, as many as 3,38,88,571 new subscribers joined the EPF scheme.

During the same period, a total 3,91,66,064 new subscribers joined the Employees’ State Insurance scheme.

The number of newly registered employees and paying contribution in the ESI in May were 4,63,189.

Total new ESI subscribers during the month were 43,888 including the government -- central and state, and the non-government employees.

During September 2017 to May 2020, as many as 20,69,538 new subscribers joined the National Pension Scheme (NPS).

The present report gives different perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector and does not measure employment at a holistic level.

Since April, 2018 this Ministry has been bringing out the employment related statistics in the formal sector covering the period September 2017 onwards, using information on the number of subscribers who have subscribed under three major schemes, namely the EPF Scheme, ESI Scheme and the NPS.
