India's July 2020 crude steel production falls over 24 pc; global production declines 2.5 pc : Report
New Delhi/IBNS: India's crude steel production plummeted 24.6 per cent to 7.150 million tonnes (MT) in July 2020 against 9.485MT crude steel during the same month in 2019, World Steel Association (worldsteel) said in its latest report.
Steel production across the world also fell during the month under review, the report said.
The data representing 64 countries showed world crude steel production fell 2.5 per cent to 152.694MT in July 2020 from 156.679MT in July 2019.
According to the report, China recorded a year-on-year growth (YOY) of 9.1 per cent at 93.359MT during July 2020 while the United States manufactured 5.241MT of crude steel in July 2020, a decline of 29.4 per cent in comparison to 7.419MT output in July 2019.
Japan recorded output of 6.049MT in July 2020, registering a fall of 27.9 per cent from 8.387MT in July 2019.
South Korea's crude steel production for July 2020 for the review month remained at 5.526MT, down 8.3 per cent against 6.026MT in July 2019.
The steel production for the European Union was estimated at 9.817MT in July 2020 down by 24.4 percent over 12.989 in July 2019 while the production in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries was estimated to be 8.091MT, a fall of 5.8 per cent over 8.588MT in July 2019.
