Mumbai/UNI: The Rupee on Monday tumbled down 17 paise to settle at 72.61 against the USD on rising demand for US Dollar by bankers and exporters, dealers at the Forex Market said.
In opening trade, the domestic unit rose by eight paise to 72.36. Later, it erased earlier gains and finished negative at 72.61, sliding by 17 paise as compared to its previous close.
The local unit registered days high and low at 72.65 and 72.32 respectively.
The Rupee was seen weak today owing to firm dollar against other world currencies amid negative equity market, dealers added.
