Kolkata: Smartphone major realme recently announced at its inaugural India 5G webinar, which was held in partnership with Counterpoint Research, that the Indian market will see the launch of the realme GT 5G series this quarter with multiple GT 5G products.
realme revealed that new models in realme GT 5G series will be launched in Q3, respectively, among several other corporate initiatives to promote 5G adoption in India.
realme also shared that it aims to bring the sub-10K segment 5G smartphones to the users next year, with the support of the chipset manufacturers and other industry partners.
realme, the number one 5G smartphone brand in May 2021, as per Counterpoint Research, with the theme “5G in India: Levelling Up Experiences and Accessibility” of the 5G webinar brought together leaders from industry association, research institution, and component vendor and device manufacturer to share their insights on several 5G topics: 5G forecasts for India and potential for India to be a key driver of global 5G shipments, future-proofing smartphones with cutting-edge chipsets, 5G commercial rollouts, accessibility of 5G and India as a 5G powerhouse, importance of 5G-enabled smartphones ushering the 5G experience, benefits that 5G smartphones will bring to the user, 5G enabling other infrastructures to unleash new capabilities & AIOT.
COAI through the webinar revealed that there are already 5 million 5G smartphones that are latched on the mobile operator's network in India. MediaTek shared that they are working very closely with their partners to meet the customer's expectations. The panelists also highlighted that there are many emerging opportunities and the growth potential of 5G, which include the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0, Cloud Computing, Open source, data protection and privacy, and the app economy. Counterpoint Research, through this webinar, shared that in May 2021, almost 14% of the smartphones sold in the month of May were the 5G devices and further shared that India, although being the second-largest market in the world, is still not saturated and has almost 50% in terms of potential penetration. Counterpoint Research further shared the estimate that close to billions of smartphones will be sold in India in the next 5 years.
At the webinar, realme reaffirmed its commitment to become a “popularizer of 5G” and shared its latest pledge to advance the adoption of 5G in Indian market and bring the technology to more users in India and worldwide. In 2021, realme has already launched six 5G devices in Indian market and In the 2nd half of 2021, all realme products above INR 15k will be 5G.
To support our ambition to become a 5G leader, realme has been undergoing a rapid internal 5G transformation. Currently, 90% of realme’s R&D resources have been converted to develop 5G technology and products.

Tarun Pathak, Research Director, Counterpoint Research said at the webinar, “There are a number of market and technology factors which will make the transition from 4G to 5G the fastest amongst all generations. There is the anticipation of massive performance boosts in download speeds and step-change feature set improvements across imaging, processors and battery life. But at the same time, we’re also seeing very accessible price points across mid and lower-tier devices. The combination of these factors makes a very strong case for record growth.”
