Chandigarh, Jan 16 (IBNS) A 200 kWp SPV Grid Interactive multi rooftop single point integration power plant, designed and commissioned by EPC conglomerate Punj Lloyd was inaugurated on Thursday by Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotional Society (CREST) at the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) Complex in Chandigarh, taking Punj Lloyd’s cumulative installed solar energy capacity to over 1.2 MWp in Chandigarh.

Punj Lloyd has earlier completed a 495 kWp and a 435 kWp SPV Grid Interactive multi-rooftop single point integration power plants in the Government Colleges of Girls and Boys respectively.

Chandigarh was identified as the Model Solar City by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in its Solar City Programme.

CREST is the nodal agency for executing solar projects in Chandigarh.

Besides contributing to the Ministry’s mission of creating solar cities, these rooftop projects, developed by the Group’s renewable arm, Punj Lloyd Delta Renewables will be instrumental in reaching the Governments target of 100GW by 2022.

The scope of work for these plants included the Design, Supply, Installation and Commissioning. The SPV Power Plants are designed to meet the load requirements of the buildings during day time and will feed power to the utility grid / DISCOM if surplus power is available.

The average energy generation per month of the SPV Power Plant at the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) Complex is 25 MWH, reducing 60 Tonnes CO2 emission in last five months.

At the inauguration, His Excellency, Shivraj Patil, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, stated that in a country like India where sunlight is abundant, efforts must be made to fully utilise this free source of energy. With improving technology and resulting increase in the efficiency of the solar modules, he expressed confidence of higher yields.

Speaking on this achievement, J P Chalasani, Managing Director and CEO, said, “We feel extremely proud of our small but significant role in the development of solar cities. Power generation from renewable energy sources is critical in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and reining in emission levels.”

“Installation of Rooftop SPV Plants in various government buildings of Chandigarh was a very prudent and far-sighted decision. The electricity bills of the buildings have reduced dramatically. Besides, as premier institutions, they feel proud to endorse greener energy sources,” said C K Thakur, President & CEO, Power, Punj Lloyd.

He further added, “We have procured the best of equipment for these projects. The state-of-the-art power conditioning units are capable of transmitting energy conversion data thereby enabling remote monitoring of the plant performance from anywhere around the globe.”
