Thermal power capacity under outage owing to coal shortage has reduced: Centre
New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) Amid ongoing coal shortage and fear of blackout, the Centre on Wednesday said that thermal power capacity under outage has reduced.
Total capacity of coal-based power units under outage due to low coal stocks stands at 6 GW on October 13 as compared to 11 GW the previous day.
"Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) has reported that the total capacity of units under outage due to low coal stocks has reduced from 11 GW on 12th October 21 to 6 GW on 13th October 21," a government statement said.
The Union Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi earlier in the day said that cumulative coal supplies have increased to more than two million tonnes.
He also stated that coal dispatch to power plants will be further increased to ensure sufficient stock with power plants.
Happy to share that cumulative coal supplies to thermal power plants from all sources including @CoalIndiaHQ recorded more than 2 million tonnes yesterday. We are increasing coal dispatch to power plants further to ensure sufficient coal stocks at power plants.
