Tata Sons' chief Natrajan Chandrasekaran appointed chairman of Air India
New Delhi/IBNS: Tata Sons' chief Natrajan Chandrasekaran has been appointed as the chairman of Air India, Tata Group announced Monday after the board's confirmation.
Tata group had previously announced Turkey's Ilker Ayci as the chief executive of Air India.
However, that appointment was met with a lot of opposition in India.
Eventually, Ilker Ayci had declined to take up the appointment of Air India Chief Executive.
Chandrasekaran is the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company and promoter of more than 100 Tata operating companies.
He was Chief operating officer and executive director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), wherein 2009, he became Chief executive officer. He was also the chairman of Tata Motors and Tata Global Beverages.
Chandrasekaran joined the Board of Tata Sons in October 2016 and was appointed Chairman in January 2017.
He became the first non-Parsi and professional executive to head the Tata Group.
