No plan to replace face of Mahatma Gandhi on banknotes: Reserve Bank of India
Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India on Monday confirmed it has no plans to change the image of Mahatma Gandhi on currency notes.
It denied reports which claimed that RBI was considering changes to the existing currency and banknotes.
In a statement, the central bank said: " There are reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering changes to the existing currency and banknotes by replacing the face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of others. It may be noted that there is no such proposal in the Reserve Bank."
The Central bank issued the statement amid media reports which claimed the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India are considering using watermark figures of two of India's greatest personalities Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam on Indian currency notes.
