Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urges BSNL workers to be customer-centric, resolve customer issues immediately

New Delhi: Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Friday told the employees of loss-making Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd to focus on customer issues and resolve them expeditiously to turn its fortunes in the highly competitive telecom market, media reports said.

Addressing the company workers in Chennai, Vaishnaw said the prime minister as well as he himself was firmly supporting them, and it was time for them (workers) to realise them to focus on customers and resolve their problems immediately, according to a report in the media.

The government has approved a package of Rs 1.64 lakh crore and now the onus lies on everyone to make the company very strong.

Last week, media reports, citing a leaked video of a meeting, said Vaishnaw gave an ultimatum to the BSNL employees to either "perform or perish".

"I will measure KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), performance, and the result every month. Those who don't want to work can take VRS and go home," the minister had said.

He wants the BSNL employees to deliver positive results in 24 months.

Recently, the Union cabinet had approved the merger of Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) into the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
