Vodafone plans to cut 11,000 jobs over next three years

Telecom major Vodafone on Tuesday said it might cut 11,000 jobs over three years.

Margherita Della Valle, Group Chief Executive, commented: “Today I am announcing my plans for Vodafone. Our performance has not been good enough. To consistently deliver, Vodafone must change."

Valle said, "My priorities are customers, simplicity and growth. We willsimplify our organisation, cutting out complexity to regain our competitiveness. We will reallocate resourcesto deliver the quality service our customers expect and drive further growth from the unique position of Vodafone Business.”  

In a statement, the company said: "11,000 role reductions planned over three years, with both HQ and local markets simplification."

Vodafone was one of the largest telecom companies in the world nearly two decades ago.

Vodafone employs 104,000 people worldwide, according to its latest annual report. Apart from the United Kingdom, it is a major provider of mobile networks in Germany, Spain, Italy and parts of Africa, reports CNN.
