West Bengal holds roadshow in Mumbai; invites businesses to participate in Bengal Global Business Summit

Mumbai: The West Bengal government on Tuesday held a roadshow in the country’s financial capital, Mumbai, inviting businesses to set shop in the set and actively participate in the 7th Bengal Global Business Summit, 2023 to be held on November 21-22 in Kolkata.

Delivering the keynote address at the event organised in association with CII, Principal Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister and Finance Department of Bengal Amit Mitra pointed out that the state is the fourth largest economy (on the basis of Net Value Added as per RBI) in India with close to 17.50 lakh crore, and there is a huge market potential with over 93 million people as well as a large number in its northeastern neighbourhood.

Mitra highlighted the game changers in West Bengal including in the fields of mining (upcoming Deocha Pachami coal blocks, natural gas and oil explorations), IT & ITes (new data centres & cable landing station at Digha), logistics hubs (Flipkart & Amazon).

The strategic location of the state as well as its infrastructure and human capital has huge potential for investment with the government's business friendly policies.

He highlighted over Rs 4.50 lakh crore of credit was deployed by the banks in West Bengal in the last fiscal year 2022- 23 of which over Rs 1.28 lakh crore was for the MSME sector and Rs 19,150 crore for Self Help Groups.

Principal Secretary, Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles Rajesh Pandey said that Ease of Doing Business initiatives taken up by the state government, especially the single window system of Silpasaathi and separate module for the hospitality sector, where with a single sign an investor can obtain all the 30 odd licenses.

He also emphasised the upcoming footwear parks in the Calcutta leather complex- which is one of the largest leather parks in India.

Principal Secretary, Department of Information Technology and Electronics Rajeev Kumar said during an interactive session about the critical role of the IT sector in the global value chain and the equal & equitable growth in the sector.

Secretary Department of Land & Land Reforms Smaraki Mahapatra, outlined the recent initiatives which shall enable the conversion of leasehold land to freehold land and the scope it provides to the industrialists for investing in the state.

Chairperson West Bengal Managing Partner AQUILAW Sucharita Basu delivered the state perspective of West Bengal including the dedicated 10 sectors in BGBS and the focused attention on new policies and growth in each of these sectors.
