Amul ties up with 108-yr-old American association to sell fresh milk in US
Anand (Gujarat): Amul, the largest dairy cooperative in the world, has entered into a partnership with a 108-year-old dairy association to introduce its fresh, branded milk in the United States, media reports said.
The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has collaborated with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), a cooperative organisation established in 1916, to debut its fresh milk in America through a joint effort, reported Moneycontrol.
MMPA will handle milk collection and processing according to Amul's recipe, while Amul will oversee marketing and branding.
Jayen Mehta, GCMMF's Managing Director, said in an exclusive discussion with Moneycontrol that Amul's fresh milk will be priced at a premium.
The cooperative aims to broaden its footprint in America by offering a wider range of products, including butter, cheese, and buttermilk.
Initially, the launch will focus on fluid milk brands such as Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti, and Amul Slim n Trim.
These Amul-branded fluid milk products will be accessible in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Washington, Texas, Dallas, and select other regions.
So far, Amul has primarily exported milk and milk products to the USA, along with 50 other countries.
However, with this new deal, Amul is foraying into selling fresh milk to US consumers for the first time, a significant move considering the substantial Indian and Asian diaspora residing in the country.
“This is the first time that Amul fresh milk is being launched anywhere outside India. It is our great pleasure to bring the taste of India to the world, in alignment with the vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Amul a global dairy brand,” Mehta was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol.
