Volvo CE India, the construction equipment subsidiary of the Swedish major Volvo group, is aiming to double its market share in India, a company's top official said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Kolkata, Dimitrov Krishnan, managing director of Volvo CE India said: "We operate in about 40 per cent of the market in India."

"We have a market share of around 6.5 per cent in the segments where we are present," he said.

"We are aiming to double out market share in the country," he said.

Volvo CE India unveiled the new EC210, a 'Built for Bharat’ 20-tonne excavator, in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Unveiling the excavator, Dimitrov Krishnan said the company has witnessed strong growth in East India.

"The eastern region is of significant importance because of strategic efforts of the government to bolster the connectivity and infrastructure across border roads, railways, airports and other projects," he said.

Speaking about the newly unveiled 20-tonne class crawler excavator  ,  he said, "EC210 is equipped with advanced technology and features designed to deliver robust performance, efficiency and low cost of ownership, embodying our Zyada approach."

"I am confident that EC210 will pave the way for a progressive eastern India with its capabilities," he said.
