Suzlon wins IOCL 48.30MW wind project

India Blooms News Service | | 30 Mar 2016, 03:59 pm
Pune, Mar 30 (IBNS) The Suzlon Group, one of the leading global renewable energy solutions providers, announced on Wednesday that it has received another turnkey order of 48.30MW wind power project from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

The project consists of 11 units of S97 120m all-steel hybrid tower and 12 units of S97 90m tubular tower with rated capacity of 2.1MW each.

The project has the potential to provide power to 26,000 households and reduce 0.10 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum, said the company.

Located in the districts of Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, Rajasthan, the project is scheduled for completion by March 2017.

Suzlon will provide comprehensive operation and maintenance for an initial period of 10 years.

Suzlon is credited with developing one of the country’s largest wind park in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, with installations of over 1,100MW.

As on March 2015, Rajasthan’s total wind installations stood at ~3,307MW out of which ~1,569MW has been contributed by Suzlon, the company announced.

Mr. Ishwar Mangal, Chief Sales Officer, Suzlon Group said, “Yet another order from Indian Oil Corporation Limited is a testimony of our customer confidence in our technology which helps us partner with the nation’s leading PSUs in their transition to sustainable energy architecture. With our next generation technology, we continue to fulfil the growing demands of electricity. Suzlon is best positioned to leverage its technological expertise for the Indian terrain. With the ambitious government target of 175GW by 2022, we are confident that our partnership will reinforce the sustainable development of the country.”

Suzlon will fulfil the IOCL project with products from its S9X series, specially designed for the Indian terrain, and delivering higher energy yield, the company said.

The S97 90m hub height wind turbine generator features the time tested Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology, which is designed to optimally harness available wind resources. It not only delivers higher energy yield, but also offers higher return on investment for customers.

The S97 120m is the tallest all-steel hybrid tower (120 meter height) in the world and combines both lattice and tubular structures. The S97 120m prototype, set up in November 2014 at Kutch, Gujarat, achieved a plant load factor (PLF) of 35%, successfully generating 6.42 million kWh over the first 12 months of operation.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is the country’s leading Public Sector Unit (PSU) in the oil industry. Its business interests span the entire hydrocarbon value-chain – from refining, pipeline transportation and marketing of petroleum products to exploration and production of crude oil and gas and marketing of natural gas and petrochemicals, besides alternative energy and globalisation of downstream operations.
