Apple CEO meets with Indian app developers in Mumbai
Cook, who arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday midnight from China, had met Chinese developers on Monday and appreciated their contribution to the economy.
Cook began his first day with a visit to Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak Temple.
According to media reports, he met Anant Ambani, son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, during the temple visit.
Interestingly, Reliance is one of the key telecom companies rolling out 4G network in India and according to some reports, Apple is looking forward to increased sales of Apple iPhone in India following the availability of faster networks.
According to media reports, Cook is expected to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry and actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Later in the week, Cook is also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Wednesday, Apple announced a new initiative to support engineering talent and accelerate growth in India’s iOS developer community by establishing a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru,
“India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world,” said Tim Cook. “With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we’re giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world.”
According to media reports, Apple is likely to set up its own branded stores in India and is setting up a digital mapping centre in Hyderabad.
