New Delhi, July 11 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian and Russian scientists after the second Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) reactor attained criticality on Sunday evening.

"Second reactor at Kudankulam became critical yesterday. This is a piece of great news, which makes us happy," the PM tweeted.

Congratulating the scientists from both the nations, he said, "I congratulate the atomic energy scientists, both from Indian and the Russian side for this major technological success."

The reactor is expected to generate 400 MWe of power, 45 days after it attains criticality.
