Mumbai/ Kolkata, Aug 8 (IBNS): Tata Power, a power company, has been relentlessly working towards the conservation and saving of Mighty Mahseer through its ‘Act for Mahseer’ movement.

In line with its commitment to this sensitive cause and in anticipation of upcoming Mahseer Day celebrations on Aug 8; Tata Power organized an educational cum informative visit for school children to its world renowned Mahseer hatchery at Lonavala.

The school children also participated in a drawing competition on the theme of "Stop Water Pollution & Save Mahseer".

This initiative is a part of Tata Power’s ‘Act for Mahseer’, a sustainable programme focused at conservation of the Mahseer, an endangered species of fish that was undertaken in 1975.

As part of its preparations to celebrate Mahseer day; Tata Power conducted a sensitization session for the Club Enerji school children at its Mahseer Hatchery at Lonavala. The students were walked through the entire breeding process cycle of Mahseer and sensitized on the habitats of Mahseer. The children were also enlightened on how Mahseer is an indicator of fresh water bodies and one of the main reasons for the species being endangered is due to water pollution. The programme also educated the children about other reasons behind why this species of fish is staring at extinction.

Commenting on the initiative Anil Sardana, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Power stated, “Tata Power, under its movement ‘Act for Mahseer’ has been organized various initiative to help create awareness on the endangered species and efforts towards preserving this valuable fish. Children are the future of our Nation. Educating and sensitizing one child is equivalent to sensitizing four adults; as the child goes back home and communicates his or her experience to all at home. Through this visit we wanted to help children understand the importance of water conservation and preservation especially in preserving the natural habitat of the Mahseer. We are sure that the children have taken home a strong message as displayed by their thought provoking artwork”.
