New Delhi, Aug 23 (IBNS): Lenskart and Samarpan Foundation have joined hands for conducting a series of eye check ups for Tihar Jail inmates, a release said.

The camp was organized on Aug 17, 2016, and will continue with a series of six camps covering six jails of Tihar.

One camp will be organized each month.

The first camp witnessed participation of 150 plus inmates.

The initiative is targeted to provide free screening to approximately 1500 inmates over the course of six months.

Speaking about the initiative, Peyush Bansal, Founder and CEO, Lenskart said, “One-third of our population needs glasses but doesn't have access to them, making us the blind capital of the world with over 15 million blind people. Our aim is to make eye wear accessible to every Indian. To fulfil this, it is important for us to make it accessible to people who are either unaware of their eye care needs or ignore it."

"We are happy to join hands with Samarpan Foundation for this noble cause of providing professional screening to the inmates of Tihar Jail. We sincerely hope we will be able to help provide inmates with precise and accurate eye vision. We will continue to invest in such initiatives to ensure that eye care becomes accessible to each every individual in the country,” he added

Patrick Sanfrancesco, Founder of Samarpan Foundation shared, "The laws of man say justice and punishment. The laws of God say forgiveness and mercy. We believe that “If you judge them, you have no time to love them. Samarpan Foundation is a community of outward-focused volunteers, guided by the principle of doing what needs to be done to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number. We work, not for the inmates, but with them."

"Eye camp came forth to us as one of the few ways with which lives can be changed. We took this opportunity and tied up with Lens Kart to provide the needed eye check-up along with spectacles to those in need,” Sanfrancesco added.
