Govt decides to print plastic currency notes

New Delhi, Dec 9 (IBNS): The government on Friday said it has decided to print plastic currency notes.

The government informed the Parliament that procurement of material has started.

"It has been decided to print banknotes based on plastic/polymer substrate. The process of procurement has been initiated," Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Friday.

The Centre on Nov 8 banned old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.
