GST Council reduces rates for 66 items in latest meeting

New Delhi, Jun 12 (IBNS): Items like insulin, cashew nuts, pickles, school bags and several other items are set to get cheaper with the Goods and Services tax (GST) Council reducing the tax of 66 items, according to media reports on Monday.

The decision was taken at the GST Council meeting on Sunday.

Union Finance Minister said that the Council had received representations for 133 goods, out of which rates have been reduced in 66 cases.

He said that limit under composition Scheme has been raised to Rs.75 lacs, according to media reports.

He also said that two categories of  GST rates on cinema, 28 per cent in case tickets above Rs.100 & 18 per cent in case of tickets up to Rs.100, has been decided upon.

In a press conference after the Council meeting on Sunday, the finance minister said, "Rates on goods decided today would make the goods cheaper for common man but may cost to revenue of government."
