The Namma metro network is the 2nd largest metro network after Delhi Metro and consists of two colour-coded lines, Green and Purple, with a total length of 42.3 kilometres serving 41 stations.
It has an average daily ridership of 2,41,000 passengers and also contains the first underground metro line in South India. The Phase 1 of the 42 km stretch of Namma Metro has rain water harvesting installed on 33.48 km, which will further be extended to Phase 2 of the project.
The infrastructure of the Kochi Metro spans across 13.2 km of the total planned 25 km and will be the connecting rail, road and water transport facility.
It is also the first metro facility which derives a quarter of its electricity supply through solar energy. Each station of this Metro showcases a theme based on history and culture of Kerala, such as maritime history, Western Ghats, as well as the local history of the city, among others.
Each station will also have solar panels, which will focus on producing 35 per cent of the total power usage. Not just this, UltraTech Cement has also been a part of the construction of the popular LuLu Mall in Kochi.
The underground section of the Green Line of Bengaluru's Namma Metro train service was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and the Kochi Metro was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
UltraTech Cement has also played a major role as partner in supplying cement and concrete to almost all of the metro projects in India, including Delhi and Mumbai metro.
