India races ahead of China to become fastest growing economy with 7.2 percent
New Delhi, Feb 28 (IBNS): India has once again raced ahead of China to become the fastest growing economy in October-December quarter.
According to government data, India's Gross Domestic Product or GDP 7.2 percent during the aforementioned quarter.
It is the highest quarterly growth recorded since July-September quarter of 2016-17.
The figures have surpassed expectations as a Reuters poll of more than 35 economists had predicted a growth of 6.9 percent for India.
China's growth record was measured at 6.8 percent for the same quarter.
At 5.7 percent, India's April-June quarter saw the worst performance by the nation in recent years.
The government has also revised its GDP growth forecast to 6.6 percent as opposed to 6.5 percent it had predicted earlier for the current fiscal year.
