Mukesh Ambani announces Jio GigaFiber launch in 1,100 cities, Jio Phones to get WhatsApp

Mumbai, July 5 (IBNS): Mukesh Ambani on Thursday announced the launch of Jio GigaFiber FTTH broadband service in 1,100 cities of India.

He made the announcement while addressing the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited.

Jio GigaFiber FTTH broadband service will be launched on August 15.

The service will offer high speed Internet via a FTTH network with last-mile connectivity, enabling speeds up to 1Gbps, the company claimed.

GigaTV Set-Top Box will also be available which has the capacity of providing users with "600 TV channels, thousands of movies, millions of songs" and other content in 4K resolution.

Users will be able to give voice commands to TV via Jio TV remote.

They can also make calls to any TV, phone or tablet on the broadband network.

The company will also enable home security and automation features in partnership with Byju.

At the AGM, Ambani also announced the launch of a new Jio Phone 2 model, which is an upgradaded version of its last year's model.

The new phone has been priced at Rs. 2,999.

The company announced that a Jio Phone Monsoon Hungama Offer will allow users to exchange the old Jio Phone for the new model at a price of Rs. 501 from July 21.

To add on, Jio Phones will soon make  YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp available to users.
