Guwahati, July 16 (IBNS): Britannia Industries Ltd. (BIL), a food manufacturing company, has launched its largest Greenfield manufacturing facility in the country, at an investment of Rs. 170 crores.

The facility located in Guwahati will produce a wide array of Britannia products to cater extensively to Assam and the north-eastern states.

The factory will also cater to Britannia’s vision of being a ‘Total Foods’ Company by adding manufacturing lines of new product categories in the snacking space, in the near future.

The state-of-the-art facility is spread over 22 acres and has an annual production capacity of 60,000 tones. The facility houses state- of- the- art infrastructure and technology, all of which are ‘Made in India’.

The company said it was also happy to announce that women comprise 70% of the factory’s workforce and are well represented in all 3 shifts that the factory operates.

The total strength of workers will be 1000, at the time of the factory’s full-fledged operations.

The company said it plans further expansion of its footprint in Assam by investing in a Finished Goods Distribution Center at an investment of Rs. 20 Crore, which will cater to the entire North-East market.

Sarbananda Sonowal said, “We want to make Assam the gateway to the whole of South East Asia and we have made great strides towards this in the past 2 to 3 years. We look forward to the opportunities and employment possibilities this new relationship with Britannia Industries offers.”

Varun Berry, Managing Director, Britannia Industries said, “This is Britannia’s largest Greenfield manufacturing facility, and will cater to the growing demand from North- East. The government’s recent initiatives positions Assam as a gateway to South- Asian and South East Asian markets. The state could be an ideal base to evaluate business expansion to International markets. We are very excited about this launch as it helps augment our vision to be a Total Foods company and strengthen our position as a market leader in the packaged foods industry.”
