FM Goyal promises Rs 6,000 a year for small farmers in Interim Budget
New Delhi, Feb 1 (IBNS): Amid expectations of big ticket benefits for distressed farmers ahead of general elections, Finance minister Piyush Goyal on Friday announced that the Centre would give Rs 6,000 a year to vulnerable farmers.
Speaking in Parliament delivering the current government's last budget before the general elections, Goyal said: "This amount will be transferred directly to the farmers' bank accounts in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each."
This will be come under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and farmers with less than two hectares will be eligible for this.
"The government will form a list of beneficiaries and transfer the amounts at the earliest." he said.

Farmers to get Rs 6000 per year income support. The support will reach directly to the accounts of farmers. Farmers who have under 2 hectares of land will benefit from it.
The minister also announced setting up a separate fisheries department and subsidy and said the Narendra Modi government had increased minimum support price of farming products by 50 per cent, thereby increasing the income of farmers.
With an eye on the Lok Sabha polls and winning votes to return to power at the Centre, Congress President Rahul Gandhi last Monday promised that his party would ensure minimum income guarantee for every poor in the country if the Congress-led government was formed after the general elections this year.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, Rahul Gandhi said he was trying to create two India- 'one of the Rafale scam, Anil Ambani, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi and the other of the poor farmers'.
Congress recently won state elections promising farm loan waivers and implemented the populist measures.
