New Delhi, July 17 (IBNS): Bharti Airtel and Hyderabad Runners on Thursday announced the opening of registrations for the fourth edition of 'Airtel Hyderabad Marathon' (AHM), India's 2nd largest marathon event.
The 2014 leg of this annual event will be held on the Aug 22 and expects to see participation of over 10,000 runners from across Hyderabad, other parts of India, and overseas.

Interested participants can now visit http://www.marathonhyderabad.com/ to register or visit select on-the-spot registration kiosks across popular locations like Airtel stores, supermarkets, malls, colleges etc.

The launch of AHM marks the beginning of the Marathon Season in India which starts in August and closes in the month of February.

Apart from the opportunity of winning cash prizes totalling Rs. 5 lacs, AHM participants will also have the privilege of running through the IT and financial corridors and enjoy the view in its full splendor.

Speaking at the launch, Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, Chief Executive Officer, Bharti Airtel Andhra Pradesh &Telangana said, “We havebeen associated with ‘Airtel Hyderabad Marathon’ for four years and we are extremely proud of the fact that the event has grown in popularity and stature as the city’s premier athletic event. With everyone in Hyderabad embracing this event as their own, we hope to see more and more people participate in large numbers in this year’s run. We encourage everyone in the city to be a part of this mega event this year and lead the participation drive among family and friends”.

Kali Kondury, Spokesperson, Hyderabad Runners, said “2014 marks a watershed year for AHM. We expect 10,000+ runners from across the city, nation, and overseas locations participating in the categories of Full Marathon (42.2K), Half Marathon (21.1K) and 5K. In a short span of four years, AHM has attained the twin distinctions of Best Organized Marathon, and India’s Toughest City Marathon. While the event is growing exponentially, we have remained true to our motto of providing the best running experience to every runner in a safe and enjoyable environment. Our goal is to bring a truly world-class marathon event to Hyderabad and the nation.”

In order to ensure runners are well-prepared for Race Day, specialized training sessions are being organized each week at KBR Park and other locations free of cost, providing a platform for runners to interact with experts and receive professional advice on running healthy and safely.

During practice sessions, as an additional measure, all amateur runners are designated an expert runner running alongside to ensure safety.

This event has grown to an unprecedented 9-fold increase in participation since its first edition in 2011 and AHM 2014 is slated to be marked as the largest professional running event ever in the city.
