Amul hikes milk prices by Rs 2/lt across all variants with effect from today

Ahmedabad/IBNS: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets its dairy products under the brand name 'Amul', on Sunday (June 2) hiked the prices of milk by Rs 2 per litre across all variants, reports said.

The company said in a statement that the new price will be effective from Monday (June 3) in all markets across the country.

Accordingly to reports, the GCMMF, India's largest dairy producer, has attributed the hike to the rise in input costs.

With the revision, Amul buffalo milk will cost Rs 73 per litre and cow milk Rs 58 per litre, reports said.

“This price hike is being done due to the increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk. Our member unions have also increased farmer’s [milk procurement] price approximately by 6-8 percent over the last year,” GCMMF said in the statement.

“It is worthwhile to note that since February 2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of fresh milk pouch in major markets,” the statement read.

GCMMF, in the statement, said Amul passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers to milk producers.

“The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and encourage them to target higher milk production," according to the statement.
