Mumbai/IBNS: #BoycottHyundai has started trending on Twitter as the Indian subsidiary of the multinational automotive manufacturer is facing public ire over a tweet by its Pakistan dealership on "Solidarity with Kashmir".

The controversy was triggered after a Twitter handle named @hyundaiPakistanOfficial posted, "Let us remember the sacrifices of our Kashmiri brothers and stand in support as they struggle for freedom."

Slamming the firm, several netizens called for a mass boycott cancelling bookings of Hyundai cars.

One Nitesh Kumar Agrawal tweeted, "#BoycottHyundai I've made all my mind to book Brand new alcazar tomorrow and i was about to make token payment today, you can check the quotation here, but now I need to think again, this biased view is not acceptable."

Arun Bothra says, "In my personal capacity and with limited reach, I request everyone not to buy a #Hyundai vehicle. First time supporting a boycott call. Lets #BoycottHyundai. They have no respect for our national sentiments. The half-hearted statement below tells that they have no remorse also."

One Pratibha Kaul tweeted, "I own Hyundai Creta, since their apology was just an eye wash. I have decided to use this car for removing garbage at home. Anyways creta is a petrol guzzler #BoycottHyundai."

Facing the public ire, the company posted on Twitter, "Hyundai Motor India has been committed to the Indian market for more than 25 years now and we stand firmly for our strong ethos of respecting nationalism."

"The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country.

"India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have (a) zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view," it added.

"As part of our commitment to India, we will continue our efforts towards the betterment of the country as well as its citizens," it further said.
