Indus Towers empowers West Bengal through seamless connectivity

Kolkata, Mar 18 (IBNS): Indus Towers,a telecom tower company, on Wednesday restated its commitment and focused initiatives aimed at the overall development of the West Bengal circle and its constituents, which includes Kolkata, Rest of Bengal (RoB), Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The company is working towards building and employing skilled workforce while providing seamless connectivity in the state.

Working on its commitment to provide seamless connectivity, the company now enables communication for over 10 crore mobile telephony users in the state. Re-enforcing its vision of ‘Putting India First’, the company provides employment to over 7,000 employees (directly and indirectly) in the circle.

With over 10,000 towers and over 23,000 tenancies in West Bengal, Indus now offers its users a near perfect uptime of 99.99%, thus providing continuous and uninterrupted connectivity for local industries to operate efficiently.

Talking about Indus’ local activities,  Balaji Raman, Circle CEO – West Bengal, Indus Towers Ltd. said, “West Bengal is at a strategic location for the Indian telephony arena connecting the rest of India to the East and the North East and an important circle for the telecom industry. Further to its vision of enabling communications for the local community Indus has also established towers in Lachung and Lachen - two of the highest locations for telecom circle.

Through this, the company has enabled seamless communications in two of the most important regions with respect to the local tourism industry. Through its efforts Indus has helped create improved administrative convenience and tourist comfort in the region.

Working on its core values of ExCITE, Indus continues to be responsible and sensitive towards the environment, and the communities it operates in while maintaining highest standards of health and safety.

The company has substantially increased the number of ‘Green Sites’ in the West Bengal circle to 3,600 sites in 2015. These Green Sites use of advanced energy solutions such as solar power other technologies at these sites, the company is driving its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint in the circle as well as the country.

The company has also converted over 200 of its sites in the circle to Hybrid Solar sites. Furthermore, as a part of its ‘Shut AC’ initiative the company has also converted over 20% of its total sites in the circle from indoor to outdoor, resulting in ACs being shutdown in over 2200 sites.

Keeping in line with its commitment towards encouraging Green Telephony, Indus Towers was also honored with the coveted ‘Green Mobile Award’ at the 20th GSMA Global Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain.

Having being nominated for four consecutive years and winning twice, the company the award is a recognition of Indus’ efforts to substantially reduce diesel and electricity consumption at its tower sites, resulting in low energy costs and CO2 emissions and contribute towards making a greener planet.
