Jammu Kashmir eyes investment in hydro energy segment

Kolkata/IBNS: With 77 per cent of untapped hydro energy, Jammu Kashmir is inviting investment in the sector as the Union Territory plans massive industrialisation across 14 focus sectors.

J&K accounts for 10.25% of India's total hydel power production.

The Union territory has three perennial rivers --Chanab, Jhelum and Ravi. Currently, the state harnesses 23 per cent of its 14,867 MW of hydro energy potential.

At a roadshow here ahead of of Jammu Kashmir Global Investors' Summit to be held in Srinagar and Jammu in May, senior officials of the Union Territory.

There is scope for investment in small hydro power projects, hydro power plants, and energy storage, they said.
