New Mangalore Port Trust solar project commissioned

Bengaluru, Aug 22 (IBNS): Bosch Limited, a leading supplier of technology and services, has commissioned a 4 MW solar project for the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT).

The project, executed by the Bosch Energy and Building Solutions (BEBS) team in India, is a ground-mounted installation on a land area of close to 18 acres.

It will deliver close to 20,000 units per day for the port’s captive consumption (equivalent to the power consumption of 5,000 urban households).

The Bosch team has leveraged its strong design and engineering expertise in innovating solutions for the PV (Photovoltaic) plant, along with NMPT and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to realize this solar project.

The project will contribute to the long-term self-generation of power and to the reduction of CO2 to the tune of nearly 4,100 tonnes per annum.

The solar plant will also act as the energy gateway for NMPT, as the main metering from the electricity grid is located at the solar plant itself.

“NMPT is the latest project executed by the Bosch Energy and Building  Solutions (BEBS) team. Drawing on their wide experience, our design engineers have ensured that the project delivers long-term value for NMPT. The design of the solar plant is such that it will also allow for future expansion of the project.” said Venugopalan CM, head, Bosch Energy and Building Solutions.

“Sustainable infrastructure is a key element in the development story of India. Bosch views airports and seaports as a focus area for providing energy solutions - this seaport project is an additional feather in its cap. Bosch is proud to be associated with NMPT, one of the first seaports in India to go green with solar energy and thereby contribute to nation building” he further elaborated.

Since 2015, Bosch has partnered with Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) to realize solar projects of close to 20 MW capacity and is currently executing a 6 MW solar plant on a canal near the airport. In May 2017, it also commissioned a car-parking solar project and a 2.5 MW solar project near the active runway, for Bangalore International Airport Limited.

The NMPT project was awarded to Bosch through a competitive bidding process conducted by SECI. SECI also served as the overall consultant for the NMPT solar project.
