RBI asks for documents from airports for accepting banned notes

New Delhi, Jan 5 (IBNS): The Reserve Bank of India has now directed that those who want to deposit old Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes at its offices should carry a stamped document from the airport to prove that they were abroad.

The RBI has made it clear that it would not accept the banned notes from anyone except for those who were abroad during the period allowed by the government to deposit them at the banks.

Several big queues have been spotted outside the RBI offices.

Some people have been seen protesting outside RBI branches.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday told reporters that he would not interfere with the RBI directives related to the acceptance of the banned noted after Dec 30.

The Centre on Nov 8 banned old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.
