Sensex falls 210.45 pts after strong show in the morning

Despite a strong run in the morning trading hours, BSE Sensex dropped by 210.45 pts to settle at 79,032.73 on profit booking by local operators on Friday, losing its winning streak of the five last sessions.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE), on the other hand, eased 33.90 pts to 24,010.60.

Before the market witnessed turbulence in the trade,  Sensex opened higher at 79457.58, up 214 pts.

It further moved up 428 pts at 79,671.58, day high.

In late trade it slipped 338 pts at 78,905.89, day low before closing at 79032.73, sliding 210.45 pts from its previous close.

The NSE recorded days high and low at 24,174 and 23,985.80 pts respectively.

In 30 scrips, 10 advanced while 20 declined.

The Mid-cap moved up by 0.41 pc and Small-cap by 0.56 pc.

The losers in the list were  IndusInd Bank by 2.61 pc to Rs 1463.80, Axis Bank by 2.05 pc to Rs 1262.45, Bharti Airtel by 1.80 pc to Rs 1445.35 and ICICI Bank by 1.60 pc to Rs 1199.80.

The top gainers were Reliance Industries by 2.31 pc to Rs 3131.85, Tata Motors by 1.80 pc to Rs 990.10, Asian Paints by 1.31 pc to Rs 2920, and Nestle India Ltd by 0.98 pc to Rs 2557.40.
