Sensex plunges over 90o points to settle at 72761.89 amid heavy selloff

The BSE Sensex on Wednesday crashed 906.07 pts to settle at 72761.89 as a heavy selloff was seen across the board amid weak global cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) dropped 338 points to 21,997.70.

The Sensex opened on a positive note at 73993.40, up 326 points. It surged 385 points to 74052 days high.

Later' it was tanked 1152 pts at 72515, days low, before closing at 72761.89, sliding 906.07 points from its previous close.

The stocks that tumbled down were utilities by 7.21 pc, followed by power by 6.35 pc, metal by 5.71 pc, and real estate by 5.41 pc.

The NSE registered days high and low at 22,446.75 and 21,905.65 pts, respectively.

In 30 scrips, 5 advanced, while 25 declined.

The losers were Powergrid by 7.28 pc to Rs 264.30, NTPC by 6.67 pc to Rs 321.85, Tata Steel by 5.87 pc to Rs 140.50 and Tata Motors by 4.28 pc to Rs 973.05.

The gainers were ITC by 4.49 pc to Rs 422.40, ICICI Bank by 0.59 pc to Rs 1083.35, Kotak Bank by 0.44 pc to Rs 6455. 25.
