London/UNI: UK on Tuesday recorded the hottest day as temperatures hit 39.1 Celsius.
The temperature as high as 41C (105.8F) has been forecast, with much of England still under the first ever red weather warning, according to Sky News
Meanwhile, the night-time record was broken as Kenley in Surrey logged 25.8 Celsius.
Kew Gardens and Heathrow surpassed the previous temperature record by Tuesday noon as they recorded temperatures of 38.8C.
The sweltering heat has already caused significant travel disruption, with Luton Airport forced to suspend flights on Monday because of a defect in the runway, Sky News reported.
Rachel Ayers, a Met Office forecaster, said that Tuesday will be "a pretty unprecedented day" with temperatures probably reaching highs of 41C in spots in England.
