Kashmir valley continues to reel under freezing temperatures, Pahalgam sees coldest temperature

Srinagar/IBNS: Kashmir valley continued to reel under freezing temperatures with tourist hotspot Pahalgam remaining the coldest place with minus 4.0 degree Celsius recorded on Monday, officials said.

A Meteorological Department forecast of mainly dry weather over J&K during the next 24 hours.

Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 4.0 degree Celsius on Monday against the minus 3.4 degree Celsius recorded the previous night.

The temperature was minus 3.6 degree below normal during this period of the season at the valley of shepherds.

The minimum temperature showed a little improvement in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, after experiencing the season's coldest night with the minimum temperature plummeting to minus 2.1 degree Celsius on Sunday.

The night temperature was recorded at 1.8 degree Celsius Monday which was still minus 0.9 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season, the department said.

Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at minus 1.0 degree Celsius for the second consecutive night on Monday.

However, the temperature was 2.1 degree above normal during this time of the season at the valley of meadow.

Quzigund and Srinagar-Jammu National highway recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius, Kukernag had a low of minus 0.4 while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius on Monday.
