Kangra Valley and Chamba rocked

Kangra:An earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter Scale hit  Kangra valley on Saturday and lasted for a few seconds.

No loss of life and property reported from any part of the valley.

This was followed by another tremor with its epicentre at Chamba measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale just seven minutes later.

The first earthquake was mild in nature but the epicenter was in Kangra valley with a depth of 5 kms, latitude 32.21 North and Longitude 76. 41 East.

People experienced their minor shocks; some people in panic rushed out of their houses too. The entire valley experienced the tremor.

 The magnitude of the earthquake was measured of 2.8 intensity on the Richter Scale and was experienced at 05.10 hrs this morning.

Another tremor was experienced at 05.17 hrs with its epicenter at Chamba and it was with 3.2 intensity on the Richter scale.

The second earthquake too was of mild in nature but the epicenter was in Chamba with a depth of 5 kms, latitude 32.25 North and Longitude 76. 56 East . People experienced their minor shocks in the morning and some people in panic rushed out of their houses too.

Deputy Commissioner Kangra Nipun Jindal told UNI that there was no loss of life or property reported from any part of district following the earthquake.

From Chamba also no loss of life and property was immediately reported, official sources said.

Kangra valley falls in the seismic Zone V and had experienced a devastating earthquake on April 4, 1905 in which 10527 residents of Kangra temple town were killed and property worth crores of Rupees was destroyed in this valley.
