Beijing: City to shut down 2,500 polluting firms by 2016

Beijing, Jan 10 (IBNS) In a move to curb down air pollution that is currently plaguing Beijing, the city's municipal government is planning to put a lock on 2,500 firms by the end of this year, according to the state run Xinhua News Agency.

The Xinhua reported that the Fengtai, Fangshan, Tongzhou and Daxing districts of the city will require to shut down the firms responsible for the grownth of pollution, while the Chinese Government will close some more by the end of 2017.

The agency quoted an official as saying that though they have taken down big factries responsible for the air pollution, small ones keeps on blooming.

Beijing is also under high threat over its pollution issues, as the air is deemed unfavourable for breathing.

The Vice Mayor of Beijing, Li Shixiang has ordered stricter law enforcement to take down small polluters.

According to the agency, Beijing is also shifting its focus from coal to other clean energies.

The Chinese capital is also set to eliminate the use of coal by the year 2020.
