Assam fresh flood: Four people feared dead

Guwahati, Apr 3 (IBNS) : At least four people are feared dead while hundreds of houses and properties damaged as thunderstorm and heavy rains lashed the state over the past few days.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two people are confirmed dead in Cachar district while two other were missing in Cachar and Dima Hasao district in the fresh floods following torrential rains in the state.

More than 600 houses are damaged due to hailstorm, thunderstorm and heavy rains in most of the areas of upper Assam, Lower Assam, middle Assam and Barak Valley districts.

Meanwhile, flood waters had submerged few areas in Cachar district and Dima Hasao district following incessant rains in past few days.

A top ASDMA official said that, more than 400 people had taken shelter in relief camps in Cachar district and 10 districts are affected in the fresh flood.

On the other hand water levels have gradually risen in Brahmaputra river and its tributaries.

Meanwhile, the state government has ordered all district commissioners by video conferencing to take appropriate measures and tackle the flood situation.
