Typhoon Hato: At least 12 dead in Macau and Hong Kong
Macau recorded eight deaths, while officials in Honk Kong confirmed four casualties.
More than 200 people have been injured.
Streets in both these regions have been inundated, resulting in the evacuation of thousands.
In Hong Kong, where wind-speeds were as high as 130km/hour, alert level was raised to number 10, the highest level.
Meanwhile, an 83-year-old man, who was earlier though to be a victim had actually committed suicide, police said.
In Macau, the worst hit area was its gambling hub.
The typhoon also caused severe blackouts, leaving the casinos to run on backup generators.
